Food Tourism Strategy for Satakunta region
The aim of the Satakunta Food Tourism Strategy is to make food tourism an attractive factor in Satakunta and to bring more business to companies and unforgettable food experiences for tourists, reflecting the food culture of Satakunta. The aim is for Satakunta to be known as a responsible food tourism region, with Taste Satakunta as its unifying name. The strategy has been developed in cooperation with the Satakunta Food Tourism Network and the Gurmeeta-Satakunta Food Tourism Project.

Satakunta food tourism
Preparatory work on the Satakunta food tourism strategy started in 2023 and the final version was completed in late 2024. The strategy builds heavily on the Finnish Food Tourism Strategy published in October 2024, with the addition of Satakunta's own special features. Satakunta's food culture reflects its maritime and seafood heritage, its manor houses and iron works, and its culture of gastronomy with its rich banquets. The local materials are locally sourced and today Satakunta is still a strong and diverse food-producing region with many production plants, processors and contract producers. Satakunta is an industry-driven region, and so business travel and the hospitality that goes with it have also been an integral part of the growth and development of its food culture.
The Taste Satakunta name has been developed to reflect Satakunta's food tourism, promoting food recipes, events, local food destinations and food routes. Food tourism is built on stories, and food routes, for example, offer visitors memorable experiences that combine history, localism and storytelling.
The strategy sets out measures up to 2028
Satakunta Food Tourism Strategy is based on seven sets of measures: clarifying Satakunta's food tourism identity, sustainable and responsible business, knowledge-based management, productisation, networking, sales and accessibility, and communications and marketing. In addition to these measures, a set of measures to achieve the objectives and responsibilities for the measures for the period 2024-2028 is also provided. Clarifying Satakunta's food tourism identity is a key element of the province's food tourism strategy and its development. In Satakunta's food tourism, the tradition of hospitality and sustainability is seen as a differentiating factor from other provinces, not forgetting the maritime character and the internationality and business travel brought by a strong industry.
To guide the development, productisation, communication and marketing of food tourism, core messages have been defined in line with the Finnish food tourism strategy. The core messages are Taste of Place (A province of local flavours - Put Satakunta on your plate), Pure & Natural (Pure food from nature - Eat and feel well in Satakunta) and Cool & Creative (Inspiring and imaginative - Get inspired by Satakunta's creative food offer). These will introduce tourists to the Satakunta way of life through food. The core messages will also communicate responsible food production, minimising waste at all stages of the food chain and the use of local ingredients.
